In this study, the effects of salinity pollution and temperature of the effluent of the Norwegian desalination plant on the physicochemical factors of sea water and macrobenthic communities were investigated. Among the physical and chemical factors, the most changes were related to salinity and temperature and were measured between stations 1 and 8 (P<0.05). In the cold season, the salinity and temperature at station 1 (freshwater effluent outlet) were 38.67±0.32 ppt and 23±0.58 °C, respectively, and at station 8 (control point), 0.78 ppt. 35.67 ± 19.33 ± 0.21 degrees Celsius and in the hot season, the salinity and temperature in station 1 were 36.33 ± 0.60 ppt and 31.67 ± 0.17 degrees Celsius, respectively, and 40.67±0.23 ppt and 35.67±0.10 °C were measured at station 8. In this study, the predominance was with Amphipoda in summer and Isopoda in winter. Pearson's correlation showed a negative and significant relationship between the density of macrobenthos with salinity and temperature. The diversity index in station 1 was the lowest compared to the reference station. The findings of this study show the effect of desalination wastewater discharge on the physical and chemical characteristics of water and the population of macrobenthos. Among the investigated parameters, salinity and temperature were the most effective influencing parameters, which decreased with the distance from the wastewater discharge site.
